GUIDEHow much soil does a raised bed need?
A useful soil estimate starts with the inside dimensions, the depth you plan to fill and the volume printed on the bag. Keep those measurements separate from the outside size of the frame.
GUIDEHow to measure the volume of a plant pot
Most round pots taper toward the bottom. Treating one as a cylinder using only its top diameter can overestimate the amount of potting mix you need.
GUIDEHow many bags of soil do you need?
Compare the required volume and bag size in the same unit, then round up to whole bags. A weight printed on a package cannot be used as a volume without product-specific density.
GUIDESoil volume conversions: cubic feet, yards and liters
Bagged soil and bulk soil are often priced in different volume units. Convert them before comparing quotes or ordering a delivery.
GUIDEHow much soil for an elevated planter?
Measure the planting box rather than the legs. Work out the usable fill volume before buying potting mix.
GUIDEHow many coco coir blocks do you need?
Plan purchases from the expanded yield on the product label. A compressed brick’s size or weight is not its hydrated fill volume.
GUIDEHow much potting soil for a 5-gallon bucket?
Check the actual fill line and distinguish a US liquid-gallon bucket from a nursery pot size before buying potting mix.
GUIDEHow much soil for grow bags?
Use the manufacturer’s real capacity, not just a nominal size. Combine all your containers before calculating bags of potting mix.
